| Conchas Chinas and Amapas are 2 mountain-side residential areas just south of Downtown Puerto Vallarta on Highway 200. Driving Southwards from Downtown you will first pass Amapas, and then Conchas Chinas. This area is made up of steep winding roads (even challenging for capable 4x4s), small sandy beaches, rocky coves, beachfront hotels and beachfront restaurants - all close to Downtown. Both Conchas Chinas and Amapas are classified into a "Lower" and an "Upper" section. In general, the lower sections are within walking distance to the beaches, upper sections by car (more due to the steepness of the roads than the distance).
